Rubi: 'Achieving the first victory and also away from home is important'

The UD Almería head coach says that picking up three away points and thus reaching four of the six points played as visitors, is a great achievement

UD Almería head coach Rubi shared his thoughts on the second fixture of the competition at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium press room. 'The fact of having won the first game is important, because the less time it takes to do so, the more peace of mind you'll have,' he said. He also made it clear that the fact that it was an away victory that meant adding four points of the six points that have been played as visitors in these two first ganes of the campaign, is a great achievement.

The Catalan gaffer made a first assessment of the 90 minutes in Tenerife: 'It was a competitive and difficult match, just as we expected. For us it's vital to win away from home and get the first victory to break the ice this season.'

Rubi explained some of the reasons why he considered his team had taken the three points on the island: 'We've opted to have a lot of creativity in the attacking third, knowing that what happened to us in the end could happen to us, that some players end up tired and this is when it's been most difficult for us to have the ball. We started the game very well and in fact, until the 7th minute, the opponents did not go beyond midfield. Then, the match changed, but we finished quite well again.'

The man from Vilassar de Mar also praised the islanders, who did not make things easy for UD Almería even though they were reduced to 10 men for more than 30 minutes: 'CD Tenerife started the encounter with a very good attitude to hurt us, the sending-off obviously has greatly conditioned the final stretch of the game.'

'We're happy to prepare for next week's home game against Sporting de Gijón. Tenerife faced many adversities because it isn't normal to make two substitutions in the first half, it determines a lot for the future of the game. When you,'re one goal away, you're always alive in the game,' he continued.

The UD Almería head coach was very happy that the victory was achieves on the day of Almería city's Patroness Saint 'Virgen del Mar', whom the team recently visited in Her church to make the traditional offering of flowers.
